A human resources expert has revealed why a third of millennials fail to make it through their three-month probations.

CareerSupport365 Founder & Director Greg Weiss helps businesses 'onboard' new workers but admits facing challenges integrating Generation Y into the workplace.  

He told Daily Mail Australia that millennials regularly under-perform, are late or absent, and switch jobs often due to social media-induced envy, but also said companies are not doing enough to keep them.

Mr Weiss said Generation Y lose jobs because they score 'own goals' or make 'unforced errors'.   

'The majority of reasons why probation fails is because of their own habits and lack of engagement,' he said.  

'The reasons for failing, 62 per cent is poor performance, 50 per cent is absence, 25 per cent is lateness and 30 per cent is gross misconduct.' 

Mr Weiss said millennials are 'the most connected, informed generation in history'.
