A man who was wanted for murder after his partner was fatally stabbed in the neck has been shot dead by police.
Tafari Walton, 21, allegedly threatened officers with a knife when they found him just before 9am on Thursday at an address on Vena Street in Glendale, west of Newcastle in the NSW Hunter Region.
The house was just a few streets away from where Walton's girlfriend, Gabriella Thompson, 27, was stabbed on Wednesday morning.
Men working on a building site a short distance way said they heard sirens before three police cars 'went flying down the street'.
'Then we just heard "bang, bang, bang". It was three shots,' one of the men told the Daily Telegraph.
