The 23-year-old backpacker was walking up stairs along Upper Gilbert Street, Manly, when the trio approached him at about 5.30pm on Wednesday. The teens threatened the man with a knife and demanded he hand over his wallet and mobile phone. 'The victim received a laceration or slash wound to his head,' a police spokesperson told Daily Telegraph. 'He also injured his shoulder.' The man managed to make it back to his nearby residence before he called a taxi. He was taken to Northern Beaches Hospital where he waits to have surgery for his serious head injury. The victim described one of the teenagers as caucasian and aged between 16 to 17 years. He is said to have long, blond wavy hair and was wearing a dark hat. A second teenager is described as 17 to 18 years of age with a dark crop of hair and some facial hair. He was described as wearing a black shirt with a white logo and jeans or dark pants. The last teenager is described as having brown hair and eyes and wearing black clothing, a baseball cap with a red and white bandana wrapped around his neck.
