Facebook appears to be running again more than eight hours after users around the world began reporting outages - but problems with Instagram and Whatsapp are ongoing.
Thousands of users found themselves unable to connect to social media between noon and 8pm Eastern as a slew of Facebook-owned sites experienced issues, in some cases resulting in a 'total blackout'.
Facebook, Instagram and Messenger crashed primarily in major urban areas across the United States and Europe, along with parts of South America.
WhatsApp - also owned by Facebook - was affected by spotty service issues as well, though it did not appear to have been hit as hard as the other apps.
