An ex-footballer is facing a life ban from racetracks after throwing two shoes at horses during a trots race.

Former AFL player Rhys Palmer, 30, allegedly threw his footwear as runners went past the winning post with one lap remaining in race six at Perth's Gloucester Park on Friday night.

Miraculously, no horses were impacted by the bizarre shoe-throwing, with the pacing event won by Patrickthepiranha.
