Footy star and devout Muslim Sonny Bill Williams has made a touching gesture by pulling out of an upcoming game so he can help the Christchurch community devastated by Friday's terror attack.

The 33-year-old Auckland Blues captain announced he will not play in this Friday's Super Rugby match against the Highlanders.

Instead, Williams said he will lead a fundraising effort in Christchurch to raise money for the family and friends of the victims of the brutal attack.
