The double-sided leaflets, distributed at black churches in the city, claim the first openly-gay mayor candidate will, if elected, assign jobs exclusively to gay people. One side of the flyers features a photo of the candidate with her wife Amy Eshleman with a message that reads: 'The Gay Equality Act! It's our turn. 1st openly gay woman in City Hall.' The other side reads: 'All contracts, jobs and employment newly assigned exclusively to gay people!' Chicago mayoral candidate Lori Lightfood, pictured, speaks at the University of Chicago The front of the flyers, pictured, that were posted, reads: 'The Gay Equality Act! It's our turn' The other side claims that, if elected, Lightfoot will enforce the Gay Equality Act, which in fact does not exist The homophobic leaflets also claim that Mrs Lightfoot promises to enforce the Gay Equality Act, which in fact does not exist. They include claims such as 'All churches will abide by the gay marriage laws' and 'All Public Schools will teach Gay History by mandate'. The flyers have been left on cars outside the Apostolic Faith Church in Bronzeville, Chicago. Democrat candidate Toni Preckwinkle, Lightfoot's opponent in the mayoral race, said in Chicago there is no space for 'intolerance of our LGBTQ community' Bishop Larry Trotter condemned the flyers, saying they were 'not reflective of any black church in Chicago' While no Gay Equality Act has been introduced, Democrats in Congress recently reintroduced the Equality Act, aiming to ban LGBTQ discrimination. Democrat Toni Preckwinkle, Lightfoot's opponent in the mayoral race, denounced the flyers, saying: 'There is no place in Chicago, or any society, for intolerance of our LGBTQ community.' Bishop Larry Trotter, the pastor of Chicago's Sweet Holy Spirit Church who lobbied against same-sex marriage in 2013, said the flyers were 'not reflective of any black church in Chicago'. He added he supports Lightfoot, adding she is 'running for mayor, not for bishop'. Former Houston Mayor Annise Parker, now CEO of LGBTQ Victory Fund, condemned the flyers, addressing them as 'politics of hate and fear'. 'The attack flyers are infused with mischaracterizations of the LGBTQ community and the laws that protect them,' Parker said. Anthony Guglielmi of Chicago Police Department said they will monitor the situation.
