The video shows a Weddell seal scratching an itch and later laying down next to a companion. Filmed on Danco Island in Mikkelsen Harbour, the Weddell seals look extremely relaxed and they ignore the photographer recording them. The giant Weddell seal, that can weight up to 400 kilograms, was seen enjoying a good scratch of its tail in the Antarctic It lay down and scratched its itchy flipper seemingly without a care in the world Weddell seals are large predators, growing up to three metres long and weighing between 400 and 500kg. Female Weddell seals can reach up to 600kg in weight and may appear longer than their male counterparts. However, despite their size, they are thought to be very placid and calm animals. The video seems to support that as the seal lay down scratching his itchy flippers without a care in the world. The seal showed no sign of moving, even later when it was joined by two others on the snow covered ground The seal shows no sign of moving, despite being joined by two more seals a short while later. And neither of the three are bothered by the photographer, or by the Gentoo penguin that also appears briefly in the video.
