Video of the young man in the red and white cap being confronted by fellow students at York University in Toronto after the vigil has gone viral, sparking a fierce debate on social media. The students accused the man, who has not been named, of intentionally provoking his classmates by wearing the cap to an event for the 49 victims of the Islamaphobic hate crime three days earlier. One woman can be heard telling him: 'These people don't owe you an explanation, you just need to leave. There was a f***ing massacre and you're wearing a symbol of racism. Get the f*** out.' Several onlookers then begin chanting 'get out' at the man. As he turns around to leave, a woman can be seen knocking the hat off his head. A student at York University in Toronto, Canada, sparked outrage by wearing a Make America Great Again hat to a vigil for New Zealand mosque massacre victims on Monday Video shows the young man in the red and white cap emblazoned with US President Donald Trump's campaign slogan being confronted by fellow students after the vigil. The students accused the man, who has not been named, of intentionally provoking his classmates by wearing the cap to an event for the 49 victims of the Islamaphobic hate crime on Friday One attendee, Raneem Ayoub, shared a clip of the confrontation on Twitter Tuesday morning, https://twitter.com/raneemayoub/status/1107832052957609984: 'This man showed up with a MAGA hat on purpose. Before I started recording he was saying the vigil was meaningless.' Ayoub told DailyMail.com that the man told one of the attendees there was 'no point of the vigil being held'. She further explained the events that led up to the clash in a series of tweets. 'The man in the cap did not attend the vigil until the very ending of the event when it was being finished off with a prayer,' she wrote. 'During the prayer, he was arguing with the two men next to him. Everyone else at the vigil ignored him until the vigil was officially over (out of respect of the victims and the event). No one approached him and disturbed the vigil until it was finished. 'My school is so welcoming, the vigil was not only for the Muslim community but it was being heavily supported by many other communities at our school (including the Jewish and Christian community). The problem is not the students who took offence but the man himself. 'He's also been known by other students for always showing up to events similar to this one wearing the maga hat. Everyone seems to also be ignoring the fact that he was vocalizing disrespectful slurs about the vigil.' One attendee, Raneem Ayoub, told DailyMail.com that the man disrupted a prayer during the vigil and was later heard telling someone there was 'no point' of it being held Several onlookers then begin chanting 'get out' at the man, and as he turns around to leave, a woman in a hijab can be seen knocking the hat off his head Video of the incident has gone viral on social media as some users condemned the man's fashion choice and others defended by saying there was no proof that he provoked the students on purpose One person wrote on Reddit: 'Wearing a hat supporting an anti-Muslim president of another country (nonetheless) at a vigil for massacred Muslims makes you an giant a**hole.' Others defended the man by saying that the video shows no evidence that he was trying to antagonize vigil attendees. 'The MAGA hat is not a symbol of hatred!' one woman wrote on Twitter. In one clip shared on Instagram, the man can be heard defending himself by saying: 'I can stand here if I want.' Authorities say 28-year-old Brenton Tarrant published 74-page dossier containing 'extremist alt-right' and 'white nationalist' ideology before entering the mosques and carrying out his massacre in Christchurch on Friday.
