Allianz Stadium could have been refurbished for as little as $18million rather than the staggering $729million it will cost to be torn down and rebuilt, according to a report.

The secret report, commissioned by the Sydney Cricket Ground Trust in 2016, shows that upgrading the stadium rather than rebuilding it would have addressed the 'non-compliance' issues the government used as a reason for tearing it apart.

Demolition of the stadium is currently continuing despite legal action aimed at halting it until after the NSW state election.
