Tribal police chief daughter 'killed sons, ages four and nine, then shot ...

Authorities have identified the three people found dead in northwestern Minnesota as a mother and her two young children.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension on Wednesday said 28-year-old Emma LaRoque fatally shot herself at her home in rural Ogema in Becker County.

Her children - identified by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office as four-year-old Frederick York and nine-year-old Shane Woods - were homicidal violence victims.

They did not elaborate on how the children died.

Their bodies were found Monday at their White Earth Village home off Highway 34. 

LaRoque was identified as the daughter of tribal Public Safety Director Michael LaRoque.

The Becker County Sheriff's Department responded to 'an incident' at the property when they came across the three bodies. No arrests were made.

'Based on the preliminary investigation, it is believed there is no threat to the public,' the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said in a statement.

Friends told Valley News Live 'nobody had a bad thing to say about her' and the deaths have 'the whole tribe feeling like they got sucker punched in the stomach.'

Neighbor Tabashish Anamiki Ogitchida, saw LaRoque less than two weeks ago and described her as 'a good mom' to Star Tribune.

'Everybody is in shock and awe,' community resident, Liz King, told DL Online. 'It's terrible that this family of three had to be gone that soon.'.

On Tuesday, the White Earth Nation said they would not focus on how the family died but their 'beautiful souls'.

'During this time we want to stay clear of re-traumatizing our community, therefore we need to focus on the facts, maintain caution and use safe messaging to minimize the ripple effect,' a spokesperson said before encouraging the community to do self-checks, and take time for self care.
