New Jersey man, 20, admits shooting dead his 61-year-old ex-Marine Vietnam veteran neighbor during Halloween robbery Jimmy Kearney, 20, of Elizabeth, New Jersey, pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree murder in the slaying of of his 61-year-old neighbor Robert Rouse Kearney assaulted Rouse just before 6 a.m. on Oct. 31, 2016 before going home, retrieved a gun, and returning to the scene where he shot Rouse in the neck Afterwards, investigators say Kearney took the victim's wallet, ID, and his credit cards, in addition to his train and bus tickets They found the stolen items, a .45 caliber gun and Rouse's backpack after searching Kearney home  He is set to be sentenced on May 10. Prosecutors say they will recommend Kersey serve  30 years in prison, in accordance with their plea agreement
