Coles has been blasted after one of its plastic promotional figures was found washed up on a remote holiday island.

A local resident, Bec Gallagher took aim at the supermarket chain after finding one of the figurines – a miniature leek – on a beach on Hamilton Island, Queensland, this week.

'How about you stop producing mass waste products and try something environmentally friendly for a change?' Ms Gallagher wrote on her Facebook page.

She also questioned the supermarket giant directly.

'Hey Coles supermarkets, look what I found on Hamilton Island, is this yours?'
