Controversy as Taiwanese actress, 18, says she 'comes from China' after being ...

A Taiwanese actress has said that she is proud of being Chinese and will never forget her roots after apparently being censored by a TV station in Beijing.

Ouyang Nana, 18, said whenever people asked about her origin abroad, she would tell them 'I come from China'.

The teen star, also a musician, made the comments yesterday after the Beijing Television Station edited her out from several photos while reporting about a fashion shoot that featured her and three other young actresses.

Nana, who is also a cellist, was born and bred in Taiwan to an actress mother and a politician father.

She was cut out in one picture, blurred out in another and removed from the middle with editing tools from a third, according to screen grabs shared by Chinese media including Sina, Sohu and Strait Net.

Reports suggested that Nana was banned by the regional broadcaster after her father, a high-profile politician in Taiwan, had been branded as a supporter of the Taiwan independence movement by some people in mainland China.

Nana's father, 58-year-old Ouyang Long, is the spokesperson of Beijing-friendly Kuomintang.

He reportedly said in a Kuomingtang meeting earlier this month that the party's attitude towards Taiwan's political situation was 'no unification, no independence, no military force', which seems to have landed his daughter in trouble.

Nana, who studies at the Berklee College of Music in the United States, quickly showed her loyalty to Beijing after screen grabs of her being censored on TV became a trending topic on Chinese social media platform.

She said on Instagram and China's Twitter-like Weibo yesterday that 'I am proud of being Chinese'.

'As an overseas student, [I] often get asked 'where do you come from?',' she wrote in a statement.

''I come from China' is my answer,' she added.
