A double-amputee was rescued from an island in the middle of the Rio Grande River this week while trying to make his way into the United States.
Agents from the Eagle Pass Station marine unit said they saw the vulnerable 37-year-old man by himself in a wheelchair stranded on an island in the center of the river.
The Border Patrol says he was determined to be in the United States illegally and was assisted to the U.S.
