The heartbroken family of a woman tragically killed in a horror car crash have paid tribute to the 'doting mother' who 'couldn't have been more loved'.

Tammy Machen, 38, died in freak accident after a large tree uprooted and slammed into her car as she was driving on The Gillies Range, a mountainous area south of Cairns on Saturday around 9.20am.

Ms Machen, from Bayview Heights, and her partner James Lude, 26, had reportedly been on their way to the markets when the horrific incident occurred.

While the mother-of-one died at the scene from the impact of the tree, Mr Lude was transported to Cairns Hospital by a helicopter.

Mr Lude suffered minor injuries and has since been discharged.
