thanks GOP senators for being 'good teammates' as he tells them he ...

President Donald Trump visited Republican senators in the Capitol Tuesday to thank them for helping him, in his first comments to party heavyweights since Special Counsel Robert Mueller turned in his report.

The president is hoping to use the release of the summary of Mueller's report to get a fresh start and jump start a new legislative agenda, beginning with a push on health care.

But he also reasserted his innocence, and talked up efforts to investigate the origins of the Russia probe.

'He said I didn't do anything wrong I'm glad it turned out that way. But somebody needs to make sure that this doesn't happen to future presidents,' said Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Trump confidant who played golf with the president this past weekend, after Mueller had submitted his report to the attorney general.

Graham said he didn't dwell on Mueller, a topic that has consumed his administration and punctuated his regular Twitter blasts throughout the nearly two-year investigation.

'He talked a little bit but very little, actually,' Graham told a small group of reporters after the luncheon. 'He didn't say anything about Mueller. Glad it's over with,' Graham said.

Graham said Trump thanked the Republicans, who have stood by him throughout the investigative ordeal – although Graham said it was to acknowledge their joint legislative accomplishments.

'The last thing he said was I just came here to thank you. Thank you for helping me,' said Graham.

'To be honest with you, it's like a guy who just won an election. It's kind of a mini-election: I've got this behind me. It's a fresh start. Let's see what we can do. Starting with health care,' he said.
