The estranged husband of a missing Staten Island teacher is in police custody after he allegedly admitted to assaulting her this past weekend as they're in the midst of a custody battle over their three children.

Jeanine Cammarata, 37, was last seen on Saturday around 9pm after she dropped off her boyfriend at his home in New Springville and was going to visit estranged husband Michael Cammarata and their three children who live with him.

After she failed to return and didn't show up for work on Tuesday, her boyfriend reported her missing.

She also failed to appear at a custody hearing for her kids on Monday.

By Tuesday afternoon Michael was questioned by police about Jeanine's disappearance and allegedly admitted to police that he assaulted her.

He's currently being held at the 120th Precinct station house on Staten Island but hasn't been charged, as per the New York Post.

'She let me know Friday she was going to pick up her children Saturday,' Elizabeth Torres, her co-worker at the Dollar Tree, said to ABC.

'And that's the last anybody actually saw her,' Cammarata's best friend Jessica Pobega said.

Pobega went on to say she's received strange and mysterious text messages from Cammarata the day she disappeared.
