Heidi Marie Verrett, 34, avoided jail time in a plea deal in Louisiana last month
A substitute teacher has avoided jail time in a plea deal after having sex with three underage boys.
Heidi Marie Verrett, 34, pleaded guilty on March 22 in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana to three misdemeanor counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, according to court documents reported by Houma Today.
Verrett had originally been charged in 2016 with three felony counts of carnal knowledge of juvenile and one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile.
Following the plea, a judge sentenced Verrett to a suspended jail sentence of six months, two years of probation and a $900 fine.
She will not have to register as a sex offender under the terms of the plea deal.
Although the prohibition on her returning to teaching lasts only as long as her probation, local school officials say that Verrett will never work in the classroom again.
