A search has been launched for a pair of two-year-old black bear cubs that escaped from an upstate New York wildlife refuge center earlier this week.

The Adirondack Wildlife Refuge group reported the two cubs - one brown and one black - had escaped from their enclosure on Tuesday.

The brown bear, named Luve, is described as 'very likely the only brown black bear in the Adirondacks', according to the creatures' handlers.

The two bears were bred in captivity for educational purposes and have lived at the center since they were both one month old after they were adopted from Minnesota.
