Officers are seen telling Cowan that he has the right to remain silent

Officers informed Cowan that they just wanted to talk to him in relation to the murder of Daniel Morcombe

Police were hiding behind bushes and once Cowan appeared they yelled out 'police'

'Stay there Brett,' one officer could be heard saying.

'Stay there mate,' another officer said.

An officer then repeatedly ttold Cowan to 'stay where you are'.

The officers introduced themselves to Cowan and informed him of why they were speaking to him.

'We're investigating the abduction and murder of Daniel Morcombe, you're aware you've been spoken to in relation to that,' an officer told Cowan.

'What I have to tell you is that you don't have to speak to us today.

'You have the right to remain silent. You don't have to answer any questions or make a statement.'

Cowan then said, 'you can just arrest me'.

'Okay, you're under arrest for the murder of Daniel Morcombe.'

The case of Daniel Morcombe is one of Australia's most famous missing children cases.

The youngster disappeared from a bus stop aged 13 in 2003.

Cowan, now serving life in jail for Daniel's murder, was arrested in 2011 after confessing to undercover officers in an elaborate police sting.

An inquest was put on hold while Cowan faced criminal proceedings, was convicted in 2014 and then exhausted his appeals.

It resumed again briefly in 2016, hearing more about the police handling of the case.
