The woman, who has not been named, had somehow managed to crash her SUV through the Miami Springs parking garage's steel cable barrier, leaving her car dangling out of the second story wall opening for nearly an hour on Thursday afternoon. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the scene where a woman had crashed her SUV through the barrier cables at a parking garage, leaving her car dangling from just its hatchback After her car was secured, a firefighter climbed into the backseat so that he could pull the woman out from behind the steering wheel to safety The firefighters then worked to anchor the SUV and secure a system of pulleys to stabilize the car before the trapped woman could be pulled out from behind the steering wheel, Local 10 News reported. Photos released on social media by the fire department show a firefighter — secured by a safety cable — climbing into the hanging SUV's rear passenger area while the driver sits upfront with her hands gripping the steering wheel. After the rescue, she can be seen hugging her rescuer. The fire department said the woman was not injured and did not require transportation to a medical facility. All told, it took firefighters about 45 minutes to secure the SUV and perform the rescue. Authorities said that if it hadn't been for the fact that the SUV was a hatchback, the car might've fallen to the ground below with the woman still inside. The SUV was in 'a very precarious position,' Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Chief Danny Cardeso said, according to CBS Miami. 'The vehicle was wedged by a few inches of metal on the hatch top,' which he noted was 'the only thing that kept it from falling.' Authorities said they are investigating how the woman managed to crash through the steel barrier cables to get the car stuck in the garage wall opening.
