Stanford student whose parents gave $500k to sailing coach in college admission scam is expelled and has her credits vacated - despite getting in to the school on her own merit Stanford has announced that a freshman whose parents gave $500,000 to the school's former sailing coach John Vandemoer has been expelled The young woman has not been named and her parents have not been charged in the Operation Varsity Blues Scandal She was admitted to the prestigious university on her own merit  a judge noted last month during Vandemoer's first hearing in the case Vandemoer received over $750,000 to help get three students into Stanford, but two ultimately went elsewhere and the third did not need his help  He has entered into a deal that will see him serve just 18 months in prison on racketeering charges  Stanford was sued by students who said its involvement in the Operation Varsity Blues scandal marred its image for future graduates

Ship adrift: Stanford has announced that a freshman whose parents gave $500,000 to sailing coach John Vandemoer (above at his March hearing) has been expelled

A Stanford student has been given the boot by the prestigious university after it was revealed that her parents gave $500,000 to the school's sailing coach.

That decision was announced last week by the president and provost of the school, who did not make mention of the money that was paid by the young woman's family but rather the fact that she lied to the school by claiming she sailed on her application.

In a bizarre twist however, the young woman gained admission on her own, and was never actually recruited by the sailing coach at the school, John Vandemoer.

The identity of the student and her parents has yet to be revealed, and they are not currently facing any charges in the Operation Varsity Blues Scandal.  

'We determined that some of the material in the student’s application is false and, in accordance with our policies, have rescinded admission,' read the statement that was shared with students.

'Any credits earned have also been vacated. The student is no longer on Stanford’s campus.'

That student is the first to be expelled by the school, while sailing coach John Vandemoer was fired on the same day he
