President Donald Trump on Tuesday accused Rep. Ilhan Omar of targeting Jewish people after she called White House adviser Stephen Miller a white nationalist.
"'What’s completely unacceptable is for Congesswoman [sic] Omar to target Jews, in this case Stephen Miller.' Jeff Ballabon, B2 Strategic, CEO. @Varneyco," Trump tweeted, referencing a segment on the Fox Business network.
Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar called White House adviser Stephen Miller a 'white nationalist' last week over a report he pushed President Trump toward a harder line on immigration - a move that resulted in a massive shakeup in the Department of Homeland Security.
'Stephen Miller is a white nationalist. The fact that he still has influence on policy and political appointments is an outrage,' she wrote on Twitter.
She has come under fire previously for some of her comments on Israel.
In her tweet, she linked to an article on Splinter reporting that Miller, an anti-immigration hardliner who was the architect of the president's travel ban, pushed Trump to retracted his nomination of Ron Vitiello to lead U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Miller was also reported to be the driving force behind the administration's policy last year of separating migrant children from their parents who illegally crossed the border.
Omar, who is one of the first Muslim women in Congress, came under fire earlier this year for suggesting that supporters of Israel were urging lawmakers to have 'allegiance to a foreign country.'
It was at least the third time Omar has forced older, pro-Israel Democrats who run the House into awkward territory over U.S.-Israeli policy. The first was her claim, later retracted, that moneyed Jews buy the support of U.S. lawmakers with a strategy that's 'all about the Benjamins baby.'
The House ultimately passed a resolution condemning all hate language but Republicans criticized Democrats for not including Omar's name in it.
