Nando's and Wetherspoon topped an awards bash that was supposed to promote local businesses.
Furious locals in Preston, Lancashire, decried their own city as full of 'chavs' after the Portuguese chicken chain was voted its best restaurant, sparking outrage online.
One person tweeted: 'A f***ing Nando's?! I'll give Preston a wide berth if that's their culinary summit.'
Paul Eyles wrote: 'Lol I mean really? I know Preston isn't renowned for being overrun with fine eateries but we can definitely do better than Nando's!'

Another Twitter user said: 'These awards just seem to tell me that Preston is town of chavs that like a cheeky Nando's and cheap watered down beer.'
Darren Wilson commented: 'The very best restaurant in the whole of Preston is a Nando's? I do enjoy a Nando's don't get me wrong but the best restaurant!!'
Another person joked: 'Runner up was Burger King, who sadly lost out coz the judges visited when they'd run out of onion rings'.
Lisa added: 'Does Preston only have a Nando's, a McDonald's & a KFC? Remind me never to eat in Preston if Nando's is the best eatery they have.'
And Rory Cocker quipped: 'This is why
