Merseyside gang sentenced for string of ram raid robberies across the UK

A gang of six men responsible for a spate of ram raids and ATM robberies across the country have been jailed for a combined 34 years. 

The gang stole more than £42,000 over a two-month period by ramming cars into shops and breaking into cash machines with angle grinders, sledgehammers and crowbars.

The men used stolen cars and fake registration numbers to carry out the robberies. 

The group's crime wave happened in a diverse number of locations across Britain, including Edinburgh, Liverpool, Birmingham and Northern Wales. 

All six men pleaded guilty to conspiracy to burglary and handling stolen goods on Friday in Chester Crown Court.  

The Merseyside-based gang rammed through the shop front of a newsagents in Wirral, Merseyside, using a grey BMW and a Kia Sedora on August 22. 

The incident was caught on video by the shop's CCTV.

The video shows one car repeatedly ramming into the shop, before two men run into the gap created by the vehicle.  

Bright sparks are seen in the corner of the video, indicating the point where they were trying to break into the ATM with power tools. 

After trying to break into the machine for several minutes, they then suddenly flea the scene.
