The BBC’s North America editor Jon Sopel was under fire last night for giving a speech at an event promoting the world’s biggest tobacco company.

Sopel, who is paid up to £240,000 a year by the Corporation, delivered the address at the Philip Morris International staff conference in Miami last week.
