The agency announced Saturday that the user of force is now under investigation. On February 26 LAPD officers responded to a call at a Los Angeles restaurant where a woman reported that a man holding a four-inch knife threatened her. 'He said, "Shut up or I’m going to slice your throat," she told officers. Officers found Kenneth Sylvas, a 68-year-old LA resident, inside the restaurant holding a knife and refusing to come out. After he refused to comply for about 10 minutes, officers approached him and fired beanbag and rubber shotgun munitions, striking him and causing him to drop the knife. LAPD released bodycam footage of the incident where cops were called to the scene and shot the man with rubber and beanbag bullets after he refused to comply and drop his weapon Sylvas seen here cowering and hiding behind a chair to block the hail of bullets The LAPD announced Saturday that the user of force is now under investigation Body camera footage released by the LAPD shows the moment cops fired the bullets at Sylvas as cowered and held a chair in front of him to block the shots. In the footage several officers are seen outside the restaurant with their weapons drawn, demanding Sylvas drop his knife before opening fire. Police reported firing three rounds of rubber bullets from a 40mm device and two rounds from a bean bag shotgun, according to KTLA. 'You drop the knife now… or you’re going to be hit with a rubber bullet, and it’s going to hurt,' an officer is heard saying. 'You’re in my country man. I put my life for this... Wait 'til my unit comes, we’re gonna kill your a**, man,' Sylvas is heard saying in cellphone video of the incident filmed by a civilian in the restaurant. At some point he claims that he even has a gun. Police reported firing three rounds of rubber bullets from a 40mm device and two rounds from a bean bag shotgun before he dropped his knife After the knife was out of his hand the officers approached and pinned him to the ground On February 28, the L.A. County District Attorney's Office filed one count of criminal threat and two counts of resisting arrest against Sylvas. He's currently in jail being held on $120,000 bail, and will appear in court on April 29 After cops busted into the restaurant they successfully got a hold of his knife Once the knife was out of hand officers stormed the restaurant and tackled Sylvas to the ground. Sylvas was transferred to a local hospital where he was treated for an injury to his right hand. No one else was harmed in the incident, according to an LAPD news release. Force Investigation Division detectives responded to the incident and will conduct a thorough investigation of the Law Enforcement Related Injury. On February 28, the L.A. County District Attorney's Office filed one count of criminal threat and two counts of resisting arrest against Sylvas, authorities say. He is currently being held on $120,000 bail and is set to appear in court on April 29, according to county inmate records. This isn't the first offense for Sylvas. He was previously arrested and convicted for making criminal threats and has 11 convictions for being drunk in public, disturbing the peace and driving on a suspended license.
