Unsuspecting motorists could be slapped with a hefty fine for having their mobile phone in their lap while in the drive-thru of McDonalds.

New South Wales police this week revealed motorists risk being fined if any part of their body touches their mobile phone while in a restaurant drive-thru.   

But the surprising rule isn't so new. In fact, it falls under an already instated longstanding law about not holding your phone while driving a motor vehicle.
