It may be known as the Windy City but snow was the only thing on Chicagoans minds and under their feet on Monday morning as winter made a unexpected return.

Chicago's O'Hare Airport was blanketed in 5.3 inches of the white stuff on Sunday, making April 14 one of the latest snow days on record.

Planes were halted for hours at both Chicago O'Hare and Midway airports with more than 1,000 flights cancelled amid the snow and ice. The bulk of the cancellations were at O'Hare but more than 100 were shelved at Midway.
