Web users in China tell people to go there to see replicated cathedral

A Chinese theme park has garnered attention on social media because it has a replica of the now-gutted cathedral of Notre Dame.

Web users in China are gushing that those who wish to see a 'complete version' of the historic building should now head to the park in Shenzhen, which has dozens of scaled-down copies of global landmarks, including the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower.

The whole world was shocked when a huge fire raged through Notre Dame for eight hours from Monday evening, leaving the 12th-century monument horribly damaged.

On China's Twitter-like Weibo, a trending topic called 'the big fire at Notre Dame of Paris' has drawn more than 1.85 billion views.

While the majority of readers have expressed great sadness at the event, calling it 'a disaster of human civilisation', others were thinking of something much closer to home.

One user called 'Ma Dubiao teacher' wrote: 'Now the world's oldest and most complete Notre Dame is situated in Window of the World in Shenzhen Special Economic Zone in Guangdong Province of People's Republic of China.'

Another commentator called 'Xiong Ben Technology' said: 'Haven't been to Notre Dame? Then you can go to Window of the World in Shenzhen?'

A third reader 'W Xinchu' joked: 'There is a kind of frustration called 'you collapsed before I get to see you'. Then come to Window of the World to see the scaled-down version.'
