A lucky cat named Charlie miraculously survived an 18-storey fall from a high-rise building, but he has a long road to recovery.

The three-year-old British Shorthair plunged from a Southbank apartment balcony in the Melbourne CBD last week.

He had a five-hour surgery to treat a fractured jaw, a fractured right foot, fractured toes and a cut in his cleft palate.

Amazingly, none of his organs were damaged.
