A rare miniature wallaby was caught on camera peeking out from its mother's pouch after being born at Chester Zoo. 

The dusky pademelon, also known as a dusky wallaby, is native to Indonesia and was the first from the species born at the zoo earlier this spring to one-year-old mother Styx.

The joey is born 30 days after mating and continues to grow inside its mother's pouch from the size of a jelly bean until it emerges at seven months.

It is not until it leaves the pouch that the zoo will know its gender and can choose its name.

Team manager of the zoo's twilight team Dave White said: 'The joey here - the first to ever be born at the zoo - has just started to peek out from mum Styx's
