Fears are growing for an American woman who vanished from a group hiking trip in the Mexican state of Baja California a week ago.

Kat Hammontre, 68, set out on a walking track with several friends near San Felipe last Thursday before she hurt her toes and told her companions she would stay put and wait for them to come back.

However, when the group returned along the trail around 90 minutes later, Hammontre and her dog, Tootsie, had vanished.

Her husband, Greg Sundquist, was waiting in his car near the start of the hiking track, and told investigators that she never returned to the automobile.

Despite a massive search operation, Kat Hammontre, 68, has not been seen since she and her dog Tootsie vanished on a group hike near San Felipe, Mexico last Thursday
