A stripper, a tattoo artist and a legal secretary walk into a bar - what allegedly happens next is no joke for any of them.

The secretary, Lauren Cameron, ended up with a gruesome gash to her lip which has left her permanently scarred.

The stripper, Jessica Aitchison, was charged with throwing a plastic drink cup at Ms Cameron which cut open her mouth.

The tattooist, Reece Mobbs, was charged with spitting on Ms Cameron before her lip was split apart.

Aitchison - now a rapper who performs as 'Jackel' or 'Jackel Daniels' - faced Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday along with her boyfriend Mobbs.

The 27-year-old was charged with reckless wounding after Ms Cameron was hit in the face with a hard plastic cup at the Burdekin Hotel in Darlinghurst in the early hours of July 29 last year.

Ms Cameron needed 11 external and five internal stitches after being struck by the missile and the injury still causes her pain nine months later.

The 23-year-old said the cup was thrown at her after she was called a 's**t'  while in the Burdekin's smoking room and that Mobbs, 29, spat at her.

Ms Cameron had never met Aitchison but knew she had previously gone out with her friend Franz Schrammel and recognised her from her social media profile.

'She's got quite a big social media presence,' Ms Cameron told the court. 'I'd seen her social media before.'

Similarly, Mr Schrammel gave evidence he had not met Mobbs but knew who he was.

'I would have seen him on social media and he would have been pointed out to me at the venue,' Mr Schrammel told the court.

There is no issue that Ms Cameron was hit with a cup or that she sustained a serious injury. Aitchison simply says she did not throw it and Mobbs says he did not spit on her.

Aitchison, a New Zealand-born centrefold model who was crowned Miss Nude Sydney in 2012, and the others had been attending an emo club night at the hotel.

Ms Cameron said despite not knowing Aitchison she smiled a 'friendly hello' to her when she entered the smoking room with Mobbs shortly before 1.30am.

Mr Schrammel told the court: 'I heard Lauren Cameron make a comment about rappers and then saw Reece turn around.'

'He yelled something - I wasn't quite able to hear what that was - and saw him spit on Lauren.'

Mr Schrammel later said he did not actually see any spit leave Mobbs's mouth.

Ms Cameron said the injury to her lip still caused her pain on cold days.

Ms Cameron said Aitchison and Mobbs had been in the smoking room for about five minutes when she felt a nudge or tap on her shoulder.

'I got called a s**t and got spat on,' she told the court. 'It all happened super quickly.'

Ms Cameron did not know if the spit landed on her but said she saw Mobbs spitting.

She had felt 'a little bit scared honestly - someone a lot taller than what I am
