A police officer screamed for help after he was stabbed in the back in an unprovoked attack at a busy train station.

The 30-year-old officer had been responding to an assault when he was attacked from behind at Central Station, in Sydney, at around 6.45pm on Friday evening.

A witness said the victim staggered across the concourse before collapsing to the ground and lying in a pool of his own blood.
