Five former high-ranking officers of the New York Police Department that were once at the center of a federal bribery investigation have been issued a settlement of more than $1 million, sources say.

Ex-inspector Peter DeBlasio, former Deputy Chiefs Andrew Capul, David Colon, Eric Rodriguez and John Sprague say they were all forced to retire by former Deputy Commissioner for Legal Matters, Lawrence Byrne, when the bribery probe was first launched.

Each of the five men claimed they lost out on a wealth of accrued compensation – including vacation and overtime – when the demand was made by Byrne in July 2016.

At the time, the officials had been linked to a bribes-for-favors scandal surrounding two donors of New York Major Bill De Blasio - Jona Rechnitz and Jeremy Reichberg – but none of the men ever faced any charges.
