Laundy brothers poised to take over their family’s $500milion pub empire

The famous Laundy brothers have returned to the family business and are gearing up to take over the multi-million dollar pub empire from their father.

The Laundy family business, which is valued at $500 million, has been run by patriarch Arthur Laundy, 78, for decades.

But after quitting politics, former Liberal Party MP Craig Laundy is set to step back behind the bar - with the help of his playboy brother Stuart.

Arthur has revealed he was thrilled when Craig announced his return to the family business.

Despite publicly supporting his son's political ambition, he admitted to the Daily Telegraph he had originally tried to quash the plan.

He said when Arthur first floated the idea with him, his initial thought was: 'What the hell do you want to go and do that for?'

Arthur managed to talk Craig out of it at first but he eventually had to give in.

Craig got his start in politics in 2013 when Tony Abbott came to power.

However, the Malcolm Turbull loyalist stepped down as a Liberal Party MP following the leadership spill last year.

Having bid farewell to politics, he said he was looking forward to returning to the hospitality life.

'(In politics) you work your guts out day in day out. You do whatever you can for the community but ultimately you can never keep everyone happy.

'It's kind of like being a publican in a way. But at the end of the day if someone is getting on your nerves in a pub you can just ask them to leave.

'In politics, more often than not you just have to grin and bear it,' he said.

His brother Stu, who shot to fame during his time on The Bachelorette and dated star Sophie Monk, admitted the trio have differing opinions in the best way to work.

While Arthur and Craig were the hardest working people he knows, Stu said he prefers the 'work smarter not harder' philosophy.

He said that despite clashing at times, they manage to work together well.

The Laundy family pub business began more than 70 years ago when Arthur's parents Arthur Sr and Veronica took on the Sackville Hotel at Rozelle in 1945.

Arthur Sr - one of seven children - had grown up tough, sent to an orphanage when he was six after his parents divorced.
