Chris Dicker, 28, was seen at Tallebudgera Creek about 7am, but his kayak was later found near a bridge without a paddle. The area, near Burleigh Heads, is 'notorious' for dangerous currents, locals said. Police and family are concerned for the welfare of Mr Dicker, as he is intellectually impaired and has a medical condition. An aerial sweep of the area and searches of nearby beaches have failed to locate him. A Queensland Police spokesman said emergency services were continuing to search into the night but no sign of the man had been found at 8pm on Sunday. Locals say the creek, which runs to the sea south of Burleigh Heads, is known to be dangerous. 'Notorious area for being dragged out of the creek,' one resident wrote on Facebook on Sunday. Another woman said she nearly lost her partner at the same location. 'He was on our kayak and was taken out to sea,' she wrote. 'He was lucky enough after two hours to get himself to rocks but very very battered and bruised.' Another said they were watching the search unfold from a nearby tourist park. 'The SES are scouring the water, helicopter flying overhead, two ambulances just turned up but left - it's all very horrible to see.' Mr Dicker is described as Caucasian, with a slim build and has light brown hair and blue eyes. Anyone who may have seen him or knows where he is is urged to contact police.
