Aussie mother who has the same name as a US woman who ranted about ...

An Australian mother who has the same name as an American woman who made vile online comments about breastfeeding has been receiving death threats by trolls in a bizarre case of mistaken identity.

Carly Clark, from near Bundaberg in Queensland, has been receiving online abuse for almost a year.

Trolls have targeted Miss Clark believing she is the South Carolina woman who threatened to punch mothers who breastfeed in public.

The US Carly Clark made a post on her Facebook in July last year which read: 'I'm not sorry - The next female that tries to whip her boob out to breastfeed in front of my kids will get a black eye, move that baby (because) I'll punch it too.'

Her post then went viral - sparking outrage and causing people to hit back at the wrong woman.

Carly Clark put a notice on her Facebook profile to let people know she isn't the woman behind the vile breastfeeding comments, as she fears for her and her family's safety

The mother of five - who works as a marketing manager and owns a farm - said the abuse started about 12 months ago when she received a message on Facebook from someone in France.

The online abuse then started coming from New Zealand, the US, and in the last few days it's come from Spain.

'I just ignored it in the early stages but it gets to you regardless. You get angry at those who lash out at the wrong person and threaten your kids and lively hood,' she told Daily Mail Australia.

Ms Clark said she received threats to punch her in the face, right through to threats against her family and even threatening to kill her children.

Carly Clark, from outside of Bundaberg in Queensland, has been receiving online abuse for nearly a year now from people who have mistaken her for a South Carolina woman by the same name
