While an invitation to one of the Queen's summer garden parties may seem the most highly desired call, it appears they may not be such an honour.
According to The Times, being summoned to day out at a royal garden party at Buckingham Palace or the Palace of Holyroodhouse may signify being a failed nominee to the Honours List.
The Queen's local representatives, lord-lieutenants, are asked to rank candidates for OBEs and CBEs on official forms.
One of the options on the form indicates that the nominee is 'not recommended because local recognition appropriate'.
If this box is ticked, the nominee is described as 'a case more worthy of attendance at a royal garden party'.
