Tory Brexiteers must tone down their language because it is fuelling abuse and death threats towards remainers in their party, a former minister claimed today.
Nicky Morgan claims that Conservative colleagues are acting recklessly by using words like 'betrayal' to describe Theresa May's failure to leave the EU.
She hit out after veteran Brexiteer Sir Bill Cash said the Prime Minister has been guilty of 'capitulation' and 'appeasement' to Brussels and called remainers pushing for the softest possible Brexit - or no Brexit at all - 'devious'.
When asked today if the language used by Sir Bill leads to threats Ms Morgan said: 'Yes I do, I do. There have been some programmes about this showing that the language that either MPs or campaigners, mainly in favour of Brexit, are using stokes up other people who are sitting at home.
'It gets them really really angry and fired up, and then they will say things that they would never say face to face. We should all think about the language we're using'.
Nicky Morgan, who has received a number of death threats in recent months, says that claims that language used by Sir Bill Cash and others about Brexit fuels abuse aimed at MPs
