Police release new sketch in Delphi murders of two girls

Indiana Police released this sketch on Monday of the man they say murdered Liberty German, 14, and Abigail William, 13, in Delphi on February 13, 2013

Authorities have released a new sketch and footage of the man they say murdered two teenage girls on an Indiana hiking trail two years ago as they warn that the killer is likely 'hiding in plain sight'.

Liberty German, 14, and Abigail William, 13, vanished on February 13, 2017 after a relative dropped them off for a hike near the Monon High Bridge - an abandoned railroad bridge near their hometown of Delphi.

They failed to show up at a pre-arranged pickup location. Their bodies were found the next day following a search in a rugged, wooded area at the back of a property about half-a-mile away.

New information was released on Monday in the two-year-old investigation as an emotional Indiana State Police Superintendent appealed to the 'little bit of a conscience' that the killer had left.

Authorities released the sketch and footage of the killer on the Monon High Bridge where the girls had been. They also released updated audio of the killer speaking. The footage and audio was retrieved from Liberty's cellphone.

Police said they believe the man is between the ages of 18 and 40 and either lives or lived in Delphi or works in the area.

Spt. Doug Carter addressed the killer directly during the emotional press conference and acknowledged he could even be in the room.

'We have a witness. You made mistakes. We are coming for you and there's no place for a heartless coward like you to hide that gets his thrill from killing little girls,' he said.

'We believe you are hiding in plain sight. For more than two years you never thought we would shift gears to a different investigative strategy but we have. We have likely interviewed you, or someone close to you.

Within days of the killings, authorities released two grainy photos of a suspect walking along the abandoned railroad bridge the two girls had visited

Within days of the killings, authorities released a grainy photo of a suspect walking along the abandoned railroad bridge. In July 2017, authorities also released an FBI artist's composite sketch of the suspect from eyewitnesses who believe they saw the man in Delphi

'We know this is about power to you and you want to know what we know. One day, you will. What will those closest to you think of when they find out you brutally murdered to little girls. Only a coward would do such a thing. We are confident that you have told someone what you have done.

'I believe you have just a little bit of a conscience left. I can assure you, that how you left them in that woods is not what they're experiencing today.'

In releasing the footage, investigators urged people to examine the way the man walked to see if it was someone they recognized.

In addition to releasing the new sketch and additional video, investigators said they needed help identifying the driver of a vehicle that was abandoned near the DCS welfare building in Delphi on February 14.

Police have disclosed few details in their two-year investigation and have never publicly revealed how the teenagers were killed despite an autopsies being carried out.

Investigators on a multi-agency task force have gone through tens of thousands of leads looking for a man who forced the teenagers off the trail.
