A housing chief is in line for a six-figure discount on a luxury apartment built by his own company.

Pete Redfern has agreed to buy the riverside property, which has views over the Houses of Parliament, for £2.04million.

It was originally listed by his firm Taylor Wimpey at £2.48million.

However the price was first reduced by £336,000 to reflect a falling property market, followed by a 5 per cent staff discount, capped at £100,000.

Critics said the ‘outrageous’ deal was a ‘massive, unconditional and completely gratuitous bonus’ for the chief executive. He has already bought four discounted properties in Spain and the UK.

The row comes amid anger over executive pay at housebuilders. Jeff Fairburn, who is the head of Persimmon, picked up a £75million bonus.

Campaigners claim the bosses are profiting from taxpayers’ cash handed out via cheap loans under the Help to Buy scheme.

Clive Betts, chairman of the Commons housing committee, said: ‘It’s outrageous, just when you think they can’t do any worse they go and out do themselves.'
