The head of an alleged vigilante organization that has detained undocumented migrants crossing the border from Mexico was ‘training [armed militia members] to assassinate George Soros, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama,’ according to federal investigators.

Larry Mitchell Hopkins, 69, who was arrested on Saturday for allegedly possessing a firearm and ammunition unlawfully, made his first appearance in a federal court in Las Cruces, New Mexico on Monday.

His arrest comes just days after UCP stopped a group of 300 men, women and children, who had crossed the border into the U.S., and handed them over to border officials.

The federal charges stem from a search of his New Mexico home in 2017.

Hopkins, who is known by the alias Johnny Horton Jr, is the so-called ‘commander’ of the United Constitutional Patriots.

The group is a self-described militia that has been posting videos on social media showing its armed members detain groups of migrants near the southern border.

An FBI agent gave a sworn deposition in support of Hopkins’ arrest claiming that in October 2017, federal investigators received a tip about ‘alleged militia extremist activity,’ NBC News is reporting.

The tipster alleged that Hopkins was using his house in Flora Vista, New Mexico to host some 20 people ‘armed with AK-47 rifles and other firearms.’

‘Hopkins also allegedly made the statement that the United Constitutional Patriots were training to assassinate George Soros, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama, because of these individuals' support of Antifa,’ the affidavit read.

‘Antifa’ is shorthand for ‘anti-fascist’, which describes the group of left-wing activists who have frequently clashed with the ‘alt-right’ in public demonstrations, most famously in Charlottesville, Virginia in August 2017.

Hopkins’ lawyer, Kelly O’Connell, said his client denies every making the statement.

‘He says that is categorically false that that's what they were doing,’ O'Connell said.

‘There was no plan to do any of that.’

A month after the FBI received the tip, two special agents with the bureau visited Hopkins’ home.

According to the affidavit, they were brought to a room known as his ‘office’, where they found ‘10 firearms leaning against a wall in a closet in plain view.’

When Hopkins was asked who the guns belonged to, he said all of the weapons in the house were owned by Fay Sanders Murphy, his ‘common law wife’ who also lives in the residence, the court document states.

Hopkins then revealed to the agents that he also had more weapons in other parts of the home, including a shotgun, a handgun in the bedroom, and a handgun in the kitchen, according to the filing.

Hopkins and Murphy then allowed the agents to search through the home. They even showed the agents where the guns were located, according to the complaint.

While walking one agent to the kitchen, Hopkins brought a black tactical vest
