The iconic photo of New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern hugging a woman in the wake of the Christchurch massacre will be painted on a street silo in Melbourne.

The image, with the Arabic word for 'peace' written underneath, will be painted as a symbol of unity on a 25-metre high silo in the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick.

In just over a day, more than $11,000 has been crowdfunded for the mural, which will be created by mural artist Loretta Lizzio - who has painted walls all over the world.
