ABC journalist Michael Rowland has been bombarded with sickening messages accusing him of bias ahead of the Federal Election.

The co-presenter of ABC News Breakfast was inundated with online abuse by users, following an interview with Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten on day one of the campaign.

Hot-headed Twitter users were quick to criticise Rowland after he spoke to Mr Shorten about NSW Labor, taxes, negative gearing and coal.

'If you are ever blown up by a US bomb delivered in error as you are going about your work, I won't be shedding any tears, or seeking justice for you,' one user tweeted to Rowland.
