A half-naked man wearing only a towel desperately clung onto the back of his ute for 20 minutes after it was taken by thieves.

Bobby Cook, 27, from Brisbane, was taken for an unexpected ride on Wednesday night after carjackers stole his prized possession, his silver Toyota Hilux from the driveway of his home.

The Queensland father was about to jump in the shower around 10.45pm when he suddenly heard his car's engine starting outside.

Cook, dressed only in a towel covering his lower half, quickly sprung into action, running outside and climbing onto the car's tray as the thieves drove away.
