Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Thursday revealed that one of the suicide bombers involved in the Easter Sunday terror attacks in Sri Lanka had studied in Australia on a spouse visa.

Abdul Lathief Jameel Mohamed, one of the nine members of an ISIS death squad that killed 359 people and injured more than 500 on Easter Sunday, was a postgraduate student at a Melbourne university.

It is not immediately clear whether he completed his degree in Australia before moving back to Sri Lanka in 2013.

Prime Minister Morrison said he can confirm that the suicide bomber had been in Australia.

'They departed in early 2013. That individual had been here on a student and a graduate skilled visa,' he told reporters in Townsville.

Australian law enforcement and intelligence agencies are assisting their Sri Lankan counterparts in piecing together the sequence of events.
