Kylie Minogue opens up about Michael Hutchence's passions

Michael Hutchence lived the life everyone expects of a rockstar, right up until his untimely death in 1997.

'Sex, love, food, drugs, music, travel, books, you name it, he wanted to experience it,' Kylie Minogue said of their whirlwind relationship in a new documentary.

'As his partner I got to experience a lot of that as well. If you're a sensual being, all of your senses need stimulation. He definitely awakened my desire for things in my world.'

The pop princess, who dated the INXS frontman in 1989-91, lifted the lid on his passions in Mystify: Michael Hutchence.

She explained the pair were polar opposites when they began seeing each other after a gig in Australia.

Hutchence 'was a dark bad boy and I was the pure good girl,' Minogue said in the film, according to The Sun.

Their romance started with faxes to each other's hotels, using fake names, 'Gabby Jones' for her and 'Swordfish' for him, so no one would know.

'He had insatiable curiosity, all the good things in life and some the bad,' she said.

'He opened up a whole new world for me. A lot of it was based around pleasure, let's face it.'

'She (Minogue) has spoken before but never like this, let me tell you (it's) totally uncensored,' the film's director said of the popstar's candidness about her relationship with Hutchence (The pair are pictured at the Chanel Haute Couture collection in 1992)

The pair are even believed to have joined the Mile High Club on a Qantas flight by hiding under a blanket - witnessed by then-prime minister Bob Hawke who was seated nearby,

But their relationship burned itself out in just two years and never really had a chance of going the distance.

[It] felt loving, yet sad, but was probably doomed,' Minogue said.

She told how Hutchence flew her from Japan to New York in 1991 to tell he wanted to break up with her.

'(Michael was) on the floor, on all fours, crying,' Minogue said.

'Was it work, was it the drugs? I don't know. He was like a broken man.'

Just five years later, Hutchence took his own life in a hotel room after taking a cocktail of drugs.

Minogue was at the funeral, where his then-lover Paula Yates is said to have put a gram of cocaine in his pocket as mourners paid respects to his open casket.

The documentary, which had its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York last week, contains never-before-seen footage of the singer's life.

The film's director Richard Lowenstein, himself a long-time friend of Hutchence and director of several INXS videos, found the video in his attic after 30 years.

Some of the footage featured in the film shows Minogue and Hutchence on holiday together throughout Europe, News Corp reports.

Lowenstein said the footage he uncovered featured her talking more candidly about her romance with the rocker than she had ever been before.

'She has spoken before but never like this, let me tell you (it's) totally uncensored,' he told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Mr Lowenstein began filming interviews for the film a decade ago after viewing many documentaries he claims didn't truly represent 'the man he knew'.

Among the stars to feature in the film are U2's Bono and another of Hutchence's ex-girlfriends Helena Christensen.

Ms Christensen, a Danish supermodel, was dating the superstar singer at the time he was bashed by a taxi driver in Copenhagen in 1992.

She tells the film how the king-hit attack left him with a brain injury and 'throwing up blood and pushing away all food'.

The supermodel said that after the assault he had 'a dark, angry side came out'.

Hutchence lost his sense of smell and taste from the assault and was forced to live in darkness in her apartment for months afterwards.

Ms Christensen says the incident contributed to the depression which spiralled out of control and led to his eventual suicide in a Sydney hotel room five years later.

'Helena (Christensen) is a big key to the story,' Mr Lowenstein said.

Hutchence was discovered dead in his room at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Double Bay,
